Zooz Zen30 Double Switch
The Zooz Zen30 Double Switch is ideal for those single-gang boxes that have two switches. This is often found in bathrooms where you have a double-switch that controls a light and a fan, or a normal light and a heat lamp. The Zen30 has a single dimmer switch (top) and an on/off switch that controls a full 15 amp dry contact relay for heavier loads. I can only say one thing… it’s about time!

Overall Rating
The Zooz Zen30 is a Z-Wave switch that can control 2 loads independently with one Double Switch. The upper switch is a paddle dimmer which can be configured as an on/off switch through parameters. The lower switch is a push-button switch that can control fan loads up to 15 amps. The fan switch (lower) provides no speed control.
This is the first Z-Wave switch that I’ve seen with this capability!

According to Zooz, the Double Switch does NOT work with Z-Wave alarm panels like ADT, Ring, Vivint, or Alarm.com. A custom device handler is required for SmartThings (link below) and Hubitat has the device handler built in as of release 2.1.8.
This switch is an excellent choice to replace manual double-switches in a single-gang box like those typically found in bathrooms to control a fan and a light.
General Features
The Zooz Zen30 is packed full of most of my favorite features. The only box it doesn’t check is the switch-side notifications. Not that big of a deal, but it’s a nice feature that this switch lacks.

- Switch Invert is an unnecessary feature on this switch since it is very visible that it’s upside down when installing.
- Given the ability to change LED colors through parameters it would be nice if switch side notifications was a feature. They were not present at the time I wrote this review.
Scenes & Power
You can use the buttons for scene control (multi-tap supported by select hubs only, check your hub or contact Zooz support before buying).

- Given the nice Fan Switch, it would be great to have a power monitoring, even if only for the fan switch.
- Native Double-tap on the dimmer paddle can be configured for Full Bright.
Dimmer Capabilities
Smooth brightness control for incandescent and LED bulbs (up to 75 Watts of LEDs). Smart bulb ready! Double tap to full brightness, adjustable ramp rate, and dimming speed (your hub needs to support advanced setting input).

I LOVE the fact that you can set the minimum-dim to the same value as the maximum-dim. Set the ramp rate low and you have essentially turned this into an on/off switch.
Wiring Options
Pigtail wires for convenient connections. No side tabs and just 1.1″ deep to fit shallow and crowded switch boxes. The device is ETL certified and conforms with North American safety standards.
The pigtails are much easier to wire than the switches with the side lugs. A downside can be the amount of room in the box, especially if it’s a single gang box. The switch does come in at a thickness of 1.1″, but much of that room is lost to the pigtails.

- Smart Load Sensing is a feature where the switch automatically determines the line and load regardless of how the switch was wired.
- This switch requires a neutral wire.
- This switch has no native 3-way capability. Three-way switching can be achieved using Solution F in my How-To section.

- Location marked “Lab” is within 6 feet (2 meters) of the hub. The lab hub also has a dedicated range extender.
- Locations marked “3m/1m” indicate the following:
- The “m” is for meters.
- The first number (in this case “3”) is the total distance from the hub.
- The second number (in this case “1) is the distance from the nearest dedicated range extender (does not include z-wave switches)
- A Location of 3m/1m means 3 meters from the hub and 1 meter from a range extender.
