ZOOZ Z-Wave Plus 4-in-1 Sensor ZSE40 VER. 2.0
The Zooz 4 in 1 was the winner of my 2018 motion sensor head-to-head video (link below) for SmartThings. This is a very nice (and fast) motion sensor. It sports Motion, Light, Temperature, and Humidity sensors in one compact unit. There’s a lot to like about this unit. The unit has tons of configuration parameters, so you can set it up just they way you like it, if your hub supports that sort of thing. Let’s get into the details.
Overall Rating
If you’re a Hubitat or SmartThings user, this should be considered one of your go-to motion sensors. If you’re a Wink or Vera user, you’re better off finding a different solution. With that said, this is an impressive multi-sensor that is well rounded and configurable for a variety of applications.
Motion Features
This is a highly reliable (and fast) motion sensor. As shown in the video, this was the fastest and most reliable sensor I tested during my head to head for SmartThings. I have confirmed that it operates as fast and reliably in Hubitat as well.

Additional Features
The Zooz 4 in 1 ticks most of the boxes. The temperature is pretty accurate, however the Lux/Illuminance isn’t. It tends to ready very low. You can work around this of course, it just means that you don’t have the granularity that you might have from a better lux detector.

Hub Compatibility
This information was up to date when I created this post. As always, firmware update, device drivers and compatibility is subject to change based on hub updates and device manufacturer updates. My understanding on the lack of Wink support is that it’s a Wink issue and not a Zooz issue.

Power Options
I always prefer the CR123 batteries. I also like having the option for continuous power (micro USB) on my motion sensors. Motion sensors are an integral part of home automation and security, and leaving this critical function up to batteries is not always the best route.

Overall Performance
The Zooz 4 in 1 performs very well in the compatible hubs. Performance testing is measured as follows.
- Motion is initiated in front of the sensor (clock starts)
- There’s a rule in the hub to trigger an in-wall switch (turn it on)
- The light illuminates (clock stops)
For clarity, I do not start the clock when the motion sensor indicator turns on, I start the clock when I initiate motion.
The variable in this process is the hub processing time for motion detection, the time for the hub to execute the rule, and the time for the in-wall switch to react to the on command. I realize this method is not scientific, but it is real-world. A motion detector that performs reliably and consistently in this scenario is a good motion sensor.
