Review: Zooz Z-Wave Plus S2 Outdoor Motion Sensor
Zooz Outdoor Motion Sensor on Amazon
The Zooz ZSE29 is one of the first outdoor motion sensors on the market with a reasonable price. The video looks at all aspects of the motion sensor and compares it to the indoor Zooz ZSE40. Here’s the highlights:
The sensor has a detection angle of 100o and a range of approximately 30 feet (10 meters).
*** a newer model is available – some specs are out of date ***
Reset Interval – 5 sec to 12 min (Device Adjustable)
Light Sensitivity – 30 – 200 lux (Device Adjustable)
Power Source – @ 3 AAA batteries or 5v micro USB
The numbers in the table reflect the overall response time of the motion detector. The tests were performed with rules in SmartThings and Hubitat. The rules were very simple:
- When motion is detected -> turn on a Z-Wave switch
- When motion is detected -> turn on a Zigbee bulb
The tests were run several times on (fairly) clean hubs (only a few devices on each).

Similar tests were run (head to head) with the ZSE40. The ZSE40 was the best motion sensor that I had tested for SmartThings in a previous video, so it seemed like a good apples-to-apples comparison. The image below shows the results of the tests in both SmartThings and Hubitat.
