Dome Z-Wave Plus Motion Sensor Review
The Dome Z-Wave Plus motion sensor is one of my favorite sensors. I use it in critical locations due to it’s reliability and accurate lux detection. It’s Z-Wave Plus Certified and compatible with most Z-Wave Hubs including Wink, SmartThings, Home Seer, Nexia, Hubitat and other hubs. It’s great for lighting scenes and can be mounted almost anywhere with the magnetic base that allows the sensor to swivel in nearly any direction.

Overall Rating
The Dome is a workhorse pure and simple. The magnetic swivel base is an awesome feature that ensures you are not locked into odd mounting situations. The form factor is very small, which makes it easy to tuck away. The round case has dimples, which means you don’t need to use the magnetic mount if you want to place it on a shelf and keep it from rolling away. Other round sensors have thin mounting cases with a flat bottom. I like the way that Dome was able to do away with this concept. Highly recommended.

Additional Features
It does what it says for the price. Hard to fault it for not having what it says it doesn’t have. With that said, the unit does not provide a tamper alert, which is pretty standard with motion sensors. It took a hit for that.

Power Options
Dome claims that the battery life will last for up to 3 years. This will be dependent on your reporting interval and motion reset settings. In my testing, the batteries performed well. Obviously I can’t wait around 3 years to find out. I’m not sure where they would have put it, but for a security device (which is what I consider a motion sensor to be), I would prefer it to have a constant power option.

Overall Performance
The Dome motion sensor performed well in all speed tests across all hubs. Zero complaints. During my testing, the unit averaged less then 1 second from motion start (not motion detect) to execution of the final result, which was turning on a light.
