Today I’m going to replace my thermostat with the Ecobee3 smart wifi thermostat. And, in my home, I have a special circumstance in that I only have four wires that go from my existing thermostat over to my mechanical closet, so in addition to the Ecobee3 setup and review, we’ll also be installing the power extender kit.
Many people choose to replace thermostats early in their smart home journey since, if done correctly, it can provide significant energy savings. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration,
40% of all energy consumption in 2015 went to heating and cooling. A properly configured smart thermostat is a must have if you want to reduce your energy bill.
